We finally upgraded our mattress
We finally upgraded our mattress and honestly, we should have done this sooner.
As a baby and toddler sleep consultant and a parent of three young kids, I know the importance of good quality sleep. I talk to families every day about sleep needs, the circadian rhythm, and the impact sleep deprivation can have. But despite all this, I had been putting up with an old and uncomfortable mattress for far too long.
It wasn’t until I started waking up with a sore neck and stiff shoulders that I finally took a step back and realised it’s not just the kids who need good sleep, I do too. My pillow had seen better days, and the mattress was so uncomfortable it took me far too long to get to sleep each night. My body was trying to tell me something, and it was time I listened.
We often focus on our children’s sleep needs, but what’s often overlooked is our own sleep. As a baby and toddler sleep consultant, I understand that quality sleep is about so much more than just getting 8 hours of sleep. It’s about how well your body rests and recovers during that time.
A supportive mattress is a great place to start for restorative sleep. It helps regulate your body temperature, reduce tossing and turning, and alleviate pressure points that cause discomfort. If your mattress is too soft, too firm, or simply too old, it could be impacting the quality of your sleep. And when you’re parenting little ones (especially if you’re still navigating night wakes), every moment of quality sleep really counts.
Why I chose the Origin mattress.
After doing my research and reading a lot of reviews I decided to try the Origin LumbarCloud™ Mattress. What stood out to me were the features designed to support spinal alignment and promote deep, uninterrupted sleep.
Some of the key features that drew me in:
• Up to 2400 springs for optimal spinal alignment
• Graphite latex, 10x more cooling than memory foam (especially handy when you’ve got children climbing into your bed)
• The mattress uses materials that offer a weightless sleep sensation
• Motion isolation, so I’m not disturbed when my husband (or a children) move around
Honestly, it ticked all the boxes for me - support, comfort, and a design that suited my lifestyle.
It’s always easy to list features, but the true test is how it feels night after night. From the very first sleep, I noticed a difference. No more sore and stiff shoulders in the morning. I actually woke up feeling refreshed.
What surprised me most was the improvement in my sleep continuity. As a parent, I’m always on call. But when I wasn’t being physically woken by the kids, I was sleeping deeply. That restorative, “I-didn’t-move-an-inch” kind of sleep. And when the children found their way into my bed throughout the night, the mattress helped absorb the movement and settle us all back down more quickly.
It also keeps me cool at night - no more overheating or waking up sweaty, which is a game changer in itself because when I become too hot I have terrible nightmares.
Ordering the mattress was incredibly simple. I purchased directly from the Origin website, and the process was smooth from start to finish. It arrived quickly and was vacuum-sealed in a compact box, which made getting it through the hallway and into our bedroom really easy.
Setting it up was as easy as unrolling and letting it expand. Within minutes, it had taken its full shape and was ready to sleep on that night. Origin offers a 120-night trial, which gave me peace of mind. But honestly, it only took a few nights to know we’d be keeping it.
Their customer service was responsive and friendly, and I appreciated the level of care they show for their customers. As someone who helps tired families for a living, I really value when a brand puts that kind of thought and heart into what they do.
As someone who understands the science of sleep and lives in the real-life chaos of parenthood, I can confidently say the Origin Mattress has improved not just the quality of my sleep, but my energy and mood throughout the day. When you sleep better, everything feels more manageable, especially in those early parenting years when sleep can feel like a luxury.
If you’re on the fence about upgrading your mattress, let me gently nudge you in the direction of doing it. Your body will thank you, your mood will thank you, and honestly so will your kids. Because when we, as parents, are well-rested, we’re better equipped to handle the joys and challenges of family life.
The Origin Mattress has absolutely earned its spot in our home, and I’m more than happy to recommend it to other tired parents looking to finally prioritise their own sleep, too.
